With a name like that, how can you not want to try it? That’s some pretty high standards it’s got to live up to 😉 . After seeing this recipe online, it went straight to my TBB (To Be Baked) list. The caramel and chocolately goodness called to me, and my will is just not that strong. So when a family gathering came up, I knew this was the dish I had to make.
Here’s what you’ll need:
1 (18.25 ounce) box devil’s food cake mix
1/2 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
6 oz. Caramel sauce
3 (1.4 ounce) Heath Bars, chopped
1 container Cool Whip
First, bake the cake according to the box’s directions, which in my mind means underbake it just a bit. Nothing’s worse than dry cake. Bleh.
Let it sit for a few minutes, then cut shallow slices across the top. This is so that the gooey caramel mixture that we’re about to make can sink in.
Now it’s time to make some caramelly goodness. In a saucepan over low heat, mix the sweetened condensed milk and the caramel sauce together until it’s completely blended and smooth.
While the cake is still warm, pour the heavenly mixture on top of the cake. Make sure you get some into those slits you just cut. Then sprinkle some, but not all of the Heath Bar pieces on top–you’ll want some left over for the top.
Let the cake cool completely–I know it’s tough. Then top with Cool Whip and the remaining Heath Bar pieces. And ta da!! You’ve made a Better than Sex cake! Go ahead and serve it up and put it to the test 😉
Ingredients
- 1 (18.25 ounce) box devil's food cake mix
- 1/2 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
- 6 oz. Caramel sauce
- 3 (1.4 ounce) Heath Bars, chopped
- 1 container Cool Whip
Instructions
- Bake the cake according to the directions on the box. I used a 12” springform pan. Cool for 5 minutes then cut slits across the top. Be careful not to go through to the bottom.
- In a saucepan over low heat, mix the sweetened condensed milk and the caramel sauce, stirring until smooth.
- Pour the warm caramel mixture over the top of the cake, then sprinkle some of the Heath Bar on top.
- Let the cake cool completely, then swirl on the Cool Whip on top. For the final touch, sprinkle some more of the Heath Bar on top.
