With the Halloween season upon us, I thought I’d recommend one of my favorite paranormal romances: Halfway to the Grave by Jeaniene Frost. This is a book I’ve read numerous times and I can’t tell you how much I adore the heroine, Cat, and the hero, Bones. If you were/are a Buffy fan, you’ll love romance between this bantering duo.
Here’s the synopsis from Amazon:
Half-vampire Catherine Crawfield is going after the undead with a vengeance, hoping that one of these deadbeats is her father—the one responsible for ruining her mother’s life. Then she’s captured by Bones, a vampire bounty hunter, and is forced into an unholy partnership.
In exchange for finding her father, Cat agrees to train with the sexy night stalker until her battle reflexes are as sharp as his fangs. She’s amazed she doesn’t end up as his dinner—are there actually good vampires? Pretty soon Bones will have her convinced that being half-dead doesn’t have to be all bad. But before she can enjoy her newfound status as kick-ass demon hunter, Cat and Bones are pursued by a group of killers. Now Cat will have to choose a side . . . and Bones is turning out to be as tempting as any man with a heartbeat.
It’s the first book in Frost’s Night Huntress series and I was hooked the moment I read it years ago. Cat is a sexy, vampire-slaying heroine who doesn’t hold back and keeps the long undead Bones on his toes. I love how their wicked banter keeps the conversations flowing and chemistry sparking. Bones is so charismatic and his protective nature ranks him pretty high on my Book Boyfriends list. Now, because this is the first book in the series, their romance doesn’t end here. It continues in the second book, One Foot in the Grave.
